CAMP MEMORIES – CATHY ZINKEL – 2000
I ran into an old friend on a walk yesterday
We were happy to meet, but we didn’t have much to say
Our paths hadn’t crossed for a very long while
Although we lived quite close – within a mile
We made small talk, I smiled and half-listened, until…
My old friend let a recent rumor spill
A camp we once frequented was soon to be sold
It was a very special place, more precious than gold
My heart skipped a beat, and I felt very sad
But I didn’t let on – all the feelings I had
We said our goodbyes and gave each other a pat
And I hurried home and stopped and just sat
Then feelings flooded my mind and I rushed to the phone
And I told my friend I didn’t want to be alone
We met over drinks and talked into the night
And our friendship grew stronger before the morning light
And it came to me in those wee hours…
A place so precious and rare
Will never go away with constant, love and prayer
