Board of Directors Member Biography
Dr. Douglas R. McCoy
Doug grew up in Lombard, IL. He is a graduate of Illinois State University with BS and MS degrees in Sociology. He received his doctorate degree in Education from Northern Illinois University.
Doug has worked in the field of educational administration at three different institutions of higher education including Illinois State University, Midwestern University and Waubonsee Community College. Doug is currently a Professor of Education for Capella University. He teaches graduate courses in Educational Administration, Student Development Theory, and Enrollment Management. In addition to his instructional responsibilities Doug also mentors doctoral students in the field of Higher Education Administration.
Doug has been a board member of Two Rivers Head Start Community Action Agency for over ten years. He has been the board chair-person for the last eight years. The Two Rivers Head Start Agency is the second largest social service-head start organization the State of Illinois providing early childhood education and social services to communities in the Northern Illinois region. Two River’s operates fifteen schools in the communities of; Carpentersville, Lake Marion, Elgin, Aurora, Yorkville, Sycamore, and Morris. In his role with Two Rivers, Doug has been a state-wide advocate for the benefits of early childhood education for underprivileged families.
Doug grew up as a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Lombard where he was an ordained Deacon. Dr. McCoy and his family are currently members of Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville. As a member of Knox, Doug has been an active member serving on the Go & Serve Mission Trip Committee as well as the Youth Council. Doug has served on a number of sub-committees of the Camp Oversight and Development Work Group (CODWG) including: marketing, facilities, administration, and programming. In addition, Dr. McCoy served the Presbytery of Chicago as the Vice Moderator for the Camp Oversight and Development Work Group for 3 years.
Doug and his family have a long history of camping, working and volunteering at the Presbyterian Camps at Saugatuck. His father volunteered at the camp many times over the years in a number of capacities. His brother, David McCoy, worked summers at the camp under Rev. Bill Lankton in the maintenance department. Doug worked at the camp in a variety of positions including program director under Rev. Joe Hill. Doug and Jennifer Schuham have 16 years of experience working together as volunteer counselors for the Senior High Leadership Camp at the Presbyterian Camps in Saugatuck Michigan.
